No. 460 In the name of God Amen!!

 

May the ninth AD Eighteen hundred and eight I John Carrick of Hamilton Bams [Hamilton's Bunn] Township in the County of Adams and State of Pennsylvania being of sound and disposing mind memory and judgement Blessed be God for all his mercies Do make this my last Will & Testament as follows viz: I recommend my soul to God Who gave it - & my Body to be Buried in decent Christian manner at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter mentioned and as touching such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to help me with, I do give devise and Dispose of it in the following manner. -After all my Just and lawfull Debts and funeral Expenses are paid - I give and Bequeath unto my son John Carrick the sum of twenty pounds & to his son John & Daughter Polly each the sum of five pounds - I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Jane Intermarried with David Waugh the sum of thirty pounds and to her son William the sum of Ten pounds and to her son John the Sum of Five. - and to her daughter Polly Intermarried with Robert McJenny (McJenrey ?), the Sum of ten pounds - I give and Bequeath to my son James Carrick the sum of Five Pounds and to his Son John John (sic) & Daughter Polly each the sum of Five Pounds - I give and bequeath to my son Moses Carrick the sum of Twenty five Pounds and to his son Montgomery Carrick the sum of Five Pounds - I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Nancy Intermarried with James (Ness?), the sum of Sixty Pounds and to her sons John & James each the sum of Five Pounds & to her Daughter Polly intermarried with John (Cobean?) the sum of Twenty Pounds - I give and Bequeath to my son Samuel the sum of Seventy Pounds and to his son John N. the sum of five pounds. - I Will and require my executors to pay the above Bequests in the order in which the (sic) stand that is my son John is to be paid out of the money that first comes into the hands of my Executors after the sale of my Estate and so on in order untill (sic) the whole be paid - And my further will is that the Residue of my Estate be devided amongst my sons and Daughters above named in exact proportions to the sum already Bequeathed unto them - and all the above bequests are made to them their heirs and assigns. - And lastly I nominate and appoint my faithful friends William Waugh Sen. and David Blythe Sen. Executors of this my last Will & Testimate and I do hereby empower my Executors above named to dispose of my land to the best advantage and to make such Conveyance or Conveyances as the nature of the case may require or the survivor of them as fully to the purchaser or purchasers as I might or could do were I personally present - and I do hereby utterly revoke and Disannul all and every other Will by me made and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament - In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written.

 

Signed Sealed Published, pronounced and Acclaimed by the said John Carrick to be his last Will and Testament in presence of an (NB?). The words on the survivor of (them?) was underligned before signing.

Before James Duncan Esq. - Register for the Probate of Wills & Granting Letters of Administration in and for the County of Adams in the State of Pennsylvania, Personally came Alexander Brice and Joseph McGinley two of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Instrument of writing and on their Solemn Oaths do severally say that they were personally present & saw and heard the therein named John Carrick sign his marks unto and Seal & publish the foregoing Instrument in writing, as and for his last Will and Testament; and at the time of (doing?) thereof he the said John Carrick was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding according to the best of their knowledge and belief, and that they subscribed their names thereto as Witnesses in the presence of the said Testator and at his request and also also in the presence of each other at the same time.

Attomoreandum Letters Testamentary were on this Day granted unto William Waugh (Senr?) and David Blythe (Senr?) Executors of the last Will & Testament of John Carrick, (decd?) - Inventory to be exhibited into the Registers Office at Gettysburg on or before the 3rd day of April next. & an account or Reckoning on or before the 3rd day of March AD 1813. Witness my hand this 3rd day of March A.D. 1812.
